The Great North Run

In April, Moonraker was approached by Film Nova to collaborate on an exciting project based around the Great North Run.

Conceptually based around the tagline 'The race you can see from space', Film Nova provided a high resolution satellite capture of the race in progress, upon which, once correctly processed and enhanced, the crowds of participants and onlookers can clearly be seen.

Building on the techniques honed on the BBC1's Earth From Space, the plan was to seamlessly integrate satellite imagery with a high resolution LIDAR model of the course and iconic shots from the race day itself. To this end we were given access to hundreds of hours of rushes from helicopters and drones, to all the ground crew dotted along the course.

The result is a 2:30 short film which encapsulates and celebrates this huge annual sporting event.
